I’m Rob Pereyda. Think of this blog like “the HBR of Anime.”

I’m trying to figure out what the next 10 years of our industry looks like. This blog is where I share my thinking.

About Me

A key moment that influenced my career before it even started was circa 1993 when an 11-year old me saw Vampire Hunter D on a local TV station and was traumatized blown away by visuals I didn’t know could even exist (talking hand, anyone?). Another was in 1998 when I discovered I could use the internet to arbitrage Japanese Pokémon cards for big multiples online.

The anime main character mindset must have stuck with me, because I ended up quitting my job at the family business to take a minimum wage job testing video games, salary be damned. I quickly made my way over to Capcom on the licensing team, but the pivotal moment was when I joined Crunchyroll as employee #9 (against the recommendations of industry peers who said I would “ruin my career” by joining them).

Since then, I’ve continued working at the intersection of anime and games, with stints at Bandai Namco, VIZ Media, and Netflix. I founded Henshin as an anime-focused licensing and production consultancy and co-founded Henshin AI as a conversational commerce platform (not “push button, get show”).

Feel free to reach out to me, but please know I cannot look at unsolicited pitches.
